This raptor miniature captures a feathered predator mid-lunge — reared up on its hind legs, one clawed foot raised, forelimbs spread with quill-like feathers fanned wide, and a dramatic crest of plumage crowning its head. The jaws are open, teeth bared, and the long counter-balancing tail sweeps back behind the body with a naturalistic curve. Every scale, feather, and talon is rendered with sharp definition across the sculpt, from the overlapping scale texture on the body to the individual feather shafts along the arms and crest.
Mounted on a large 51mm base, this is a properly sizeable beast — occupying the footprint of a D&D Large creature and commanding attention on any battle map. The pose reads instantly as a threat display: this is a raptor that has spotted prey and is already committed to the kill. Whether you're running a dinosaur hunting expedition, a Lost Lands adventure, or a primal wilderness encounter, this miniature carries the weight of genuine prehistoric danger.
With its feathered detailing, the sculpt leans into the more naturalistic interpretation of raptor-kin — closer to a Deinonychus or Velociraptor as modern palaeontology describes them than the classic scaly fantasy lizard. That makes it equally compelling for display painting, where the feather textures reward fine brushwork and layered colour blending.
A good choice for adventurers who:
- Need a Large beast encounter mini for jungle, grassland, or wilderness sessions
- Are running Isle of Dread, Tomb of Annihilation, or any dinosaur-heavy campaign
- Want a centrepiece predator for a druid's animal companion or ranger's beast companion
- Enjoy painting feathered and scaled textures as a rewarding painting challenge
- Are building a naturalistic prehistoric creature collection for display
Encounter Hook
The party is three days into the Verdant Interior when the guide stops dead. He points wordlessly at a single three-toed print in the mud — fresh, deep, the size of a dinner plate. Then, from the treeline twenty feet ahead, a crest rises above the ferns. A second appears to the left. The raptors have already flanked them. The guide was not pointing at the track. He was pointing at the fact that there are no tracks leading away.
