This is the first variant in our Ragged Banner scatter terrain range from Novaminis, and it makes an immediate statement on any battle map. The centrepiece is a tall rope-wound pole anchored to a base clustered with skulls — grim trophies that suggest whoever planted this standard has been here a while and intends to stay. From the crossbar hang multiple cloth sections in various states of wind-caught motion: a broad draped panel, a tattered triangular pennant with a forked tail, and a wing-shaped piece that billow with unsettling life. The chain-and-ring hanging hardware and skull-tipped finials give the whole piece a distinctly orcish or dark lord aesthetic — equally at home in a war camp, a ruined citadel, or the territory of a warlord who collects heads as a hobby.
As a scatter piece it pulls double duty: it works as cover on the battlefield, as a landmark for encounter design, and as a focal point for narrative — the kind of object that makes your players ask questions before the fight even starts. Equally compelling as part of a painted display diorama for collectors who want grimdark atmosphere on a shelf.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Are building war camp, ruined fortress, or dark lord lair encounters
- Want scatter terrain that adds narrative weight alongside visual detail
- Are painting grimdark dioramas or display pieces
- Need a landmark piece that doubles as battlefield cover for their TTRPG sessions
Encounter Hook:
The party crests the ridge to find a valley floor thick with these banners — dozens of them, each pole crowned with skulls, stretching in rows toward a fortress gate. The warlord's forces are already mustered. The party's scout counts the standards: seventeen warbands. The Barbarian tightens her grip. Someone is going to have to decide whether they go forward or back — and the banners offer the only cover for a hundred yards in any direction.
Scaled to 32mm and suited to any fantasy TTRPG system. Available with or without a plain black display base — the base ships unattached and can be fixed with a small amount of glue. Ready for priming and painting straight from the box, or use as-is for your games. Some minor marks from support removal are possible; these are easily tidied up. Each piece is fully cured before dispatch.
