Professor Transmutation (Cobalt Fairfax) by DM Stash
Description
They say Professor Cobalt Fairfax was handsome once — before his own transmutation experiments left half his face a ruin of scar tissue and the other half wearing the easy smile of a man with nothing left to fear.

Cobalt Fairfax cuts a distinctive silhouette — a lean, coiled figure mid-stride, his long textured coat billowing dramatically behind him as though the air itself is reacting to his presence. In one hand he tips his tall top hat with a sardonic flourish; in the other, a gnarled staff with an orb-topped head is braced against the ground, steadying a man who looks like he hasn't stood still in years. His face tells the story plainly: the left side is deeply scarred, the skin twisted and cracked, the mark of magic wielded too close and too carelessly. Or perhaps too deliberately. The jagged frill at his collar and the layered cape over his shoulders give him the air of a showman — a professor who knows the lecture hall is a stage.
The sculpt rewards a painter's attention. The coat fabric has a woven texture pressed into every panel, the scarring across his face has fine raised detail that will respond beautifully to a wash, and the billowing coat hem creates a natural shadow zone that will make any layered highlight pop. Whether you're reaching for pale academic greys and ink-stained yellows or something more theatrical — deep purples and oxidised bronze — Cobalt rewards commitment to a colour story.
As a character, he works equally well as a morally questionable faculty member at an arcane institution, a wandering transmuter whose experiments have outpaced his ethics, or a BBEG who genuinely believes he's the most interesting person in any room. He's also a compelling choice for adventurers building a charismatic, eccentric Wizard or Sorcerer PC with a backstory worth telling.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Are running an arcane academy, scholastic intrigue, or steampunk-flavoured campaign
- Need a visually arresting NPC wizard or transmutation-school professor
- Want a Wizard or Sorcerer PC with a dramatic, character-driven sculpt
- Love painting fine fabric texture, scarred faces, and expressive dynamic poses
- Collect display pieces from DM Stash's Arcane University range
Encounter Hook
The party is summoned before the University's disciplinary board after a student was found partially transmuted into something resembling furniture. Professor Fairfax presides — cane planted, hat tipped, face half in shadow — and begins by congratulating the party on their timing. He's been looking for test subjects who can survive that sort of encounter. His smile suggests he isn't entirely joking.
