Big Hat Harrison cuts an unforgettable silhouette. His wide-brimmed, peaked wizard's hat — tilted with the casual authority of someone who has forgotten more arcane theory than most mages will ever learn — dominates the composition. Beneath it, his features are obscured in shadow, lending him an air of deliberate mystique that suits a Professor of the Unknown rather well. He wears layered robes of intricately textured woven cloth, a quilted scholar's doublet, and an arcane pendant at his chest — the mark of the Arcane University.
What truly sets this bust apart is the dynamic explosion of arcane energy that radiates from both outstretched arms. Thick, rope-like tendrils of raw magical force coil and loop around his hands — one clutching what appears to be a small, swirling orb of condensed power, the other releasing a great sweeping loop of energy as though unravelling a secret from the fabric of reality itself. The pose captures a mage not casting a spell in anger, but performing something far more unnerving: a demonstration.
The bust is mounted on an ornate column-style plinth, detailed with carved arcane motifs and classical architectural banding — a fitting throne for a man of Harrison's particular standing. Every surface of this sculpt rewards close attention: the cloth texture across the back of the robes is beautifully realised, the buckled belt and satchel strap add grounded character detail, and the swirling tendrils have a fluid, almost organic quality that will be deeply satisfying to paint with washes and glazes.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Paint display-scale busts and want a character with genuine personality and visual drama
- Run campaigns set in arcane academies, wizard colleges, or planar research institutions
- Want a centrepiece NPC miniature to represent a powerful and unpredictable archmage
- Are drawn to sculpts that reward careful technique — OSL on those energy tendrils would be spectacular
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to recover a stolen research manuscript from the vaults beneath the Arcane University. When they finally locate it, they find Professor Harrison already there — hat on, hands glowing, seven impossible things floating around him in a slow orbit. He doesn't look up. "Ah," he says. "More students. Sit down. This will only take a moment. Or possibly a century."
