Description

Someone built this cage with purpose — the skulls mounted on the posts aren't decoration, they're a warning.

  • ✔ Resin terrain piece, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted — primes and paints easily
  • ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
  • ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama

This is the second variant in the Primitive Cage range from Novaminis, and where the first piece suggests confinement, this one implies ceremony. The octagonal structure is built from rough-hewn logs lashed with braided rope, the upper frame bristling with bone spikes and mounted skulls at each corner post. A thatched, spike-crowned roof caps the whole construction, and a heavy barred door — propped open on an iron hook — hints that whatever was kept inside either escaped or was released deliberately. Every surface carries the texture of wilderness craftsmanship: notched wood grain, fraying cordage, the grim trophies of a tribe that wants visitors to reconsider their approach.

As scatter terrain, this piece works equally well in a goblin war-camp, a gnoll enclosure, a yuan-ti sacrifice ground, or the outskirts of a dark druid's territory. It's the kind of detail that makes players stop mid-session and ask what it's for — which is exactly what good terrain should do. Equally at home in a painted diorama or display shelf as it is on the battle map.

Suited to adventurers who:

  • Run wilderness, jungle, or savage frontier encounters and want evocative scatter pieces
  • Build goblin, orc, gnoll, or tribal settlement battle maps
  • Want a functional terrain piece that also tells a story before anyone rolls initiative
  • Paint and display TTRPG terrain as part of a diorama or collector's shelf

Encounter Hook:
The party crests the ridge to find three cages like this arranged in a rough circle — two empty, one still occupied. The prisoner inside is a wood elf ranger the village hired a fortnight ago, and she's mouthing something urgently through the bars. The cage door is unlatched, but the skulls on the posts are fresh, and the rope around the frame is still wet.

Scaled to 32mm and supplied unpainted, ready for priming and painting straight from the box. Available with or without a plain black display base — the base is unattached and can be fixed in place with a small amount of glue. As with all hand-finished pieces, minor surface marks or support remnants may occasionally be present and are easily tidied up before painting.
