Part feline predator, part planar horror, the Planar Panther Beast occupies a fascinating niche in the monster catalogue — the kind of creature that makes players lean forward and say, "What is that?" Its crouching, coiled posture communicates restrained power, as though it is moments away from lunging. Two thick, ridged tentacles sweep dramatically overhead, barbed and segmented like the limbs of something dredged from the Far Realm, while the creature's leonine head — fringed with wild, flowing mane-like growths — snarls with a maw full of irregular teeth. Heavy, scaled haunches and wickedly clawed forelimbs ground it as a physical threat, not merely an eldritch one.
The sculpt captures a genuinely unsettling duality: the silhouette reads as a great cat, but every fine detail — the alien tentacles, the overlapping hide textures, the too-many teeth — corrects that assumption sharply. It sits on a large 51mm oval base, giving it the physical footprint of a Large creature and allowing the tentacles plenty of room to arc overhead without overcrowding the composition. This is a miniature that rewards careful painting: the contrast between smooth muscle, scaled armour plating, and the textured ridging of the tentacles offers painters a variety of surfaces to bring to life.
Whether you are running a campaign that skirts the edges of the Astral Sea, delving into Planescape territory, or simply want an otherworldly apex predator to threaten a party that has grown too comfortable with ordinary beasts, the Planar Panther Beast delivers something genuinely distinctive on the table.
Adventurers who'll want this miniature:
- Dungeon Masters building encounters around planar travel, the Far Realm, or cosmic horror themes
- Anyone who needs a Large creature that reads immediately as dangerous and not-quite-natural
- Miniature painters looking for a multi-texture sculpt with dramatic silhouette
- Collectors drawn to creatures that exist at the intersection of beast and aberration
Encounter Hook
The party is crossing a planar rift on their way to the Astral Sea when the navigator's compass begins spinning wildly. A low, rumbling sound builds beneath them — not a growl, not a roar, but something between the two, resonating through the dimensional fabric itself. Then they see it: a vast shape, crouched low on a shimmering ledge of crystallised void, two barbed tentacles raised high and trembling as if tasting their fear from across the ether. The Planar Panther Beast has found a new hunting ground — and they have just walked into it.
