The plague doctor is one of tabletop gaming's most evocative archetypes: part healer, part harbinger, wrapped in the unsettling calm of someone who has made their peace with mortality. This sculpt by Mia Kay M3DM captures that tension with impressive specificity — a broad-brimmed hat pulled low, the iconic beaked mask sewn shut at the seams, and a long coat trimmed with intricate lacework detailing along its edges. One gloved hand holds a small vial aloft, appraising it with clinical detachment, while the other rests on a tall walking staff. The triangular alchemical symbols down the front of the coat add just the right note of arcane ambiguity.
Whether you cast this figure as a travelling physician with questionable methods, a Death domain Cleric concealing their true allegiance, or a key NPC at the heart of a plague-ravaged city arc, the sculpt carries enough character to anchor a whole session of storytelling. It works equally well as a striking display piece for collectors drawn to dark academia and gothic fantasy aesthetics.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a compelling NPC healer, villain, or quest-giver for a disease-themed campaign arc
- Are building a Ravenloft, Gothic, or urban horror setting on the tabletop
- Play or DM characters with a Death, Life, or Arcana cleric build
- Want a display piece with genuine narrative weight and fine surface detail
- Are collecting morally ambiguous characters with distinctive silhouettes
Encounter Hook:
The party arrives in a city under quarantine — markets shuttered, streets empty save for the slow creak of a cart. At the gate stands a lone figure in a beaked mask, vial raised to the lamplight, watching the newcomers with unsettling patience. "You'll want to answer my questions before you answer theirs," the doctor says, tilting their head toward the barricaded district beyond. "I've been here long enough to know who caused this. I'm simply not certain yet whether that includes you."
