Description

When the harbour master said the pirate vessel was armed, he failed to mention the dwarf on the prow with a hand-cranked ballista capable of firing four bolts at once.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

This sculpt from Galaad Miniatures captures a barrel-chested dwarf gunner mid-crank, muscles straining as he loads a remarkable rotary ballista — a contraption of coiled rope, twisted arms, and four loaded bolt-heads splayed outward like a deadly pinwheel. He wears a practical sailor's bandana, belted trousers, and knee-high boots, with a short blade tucked at his hip for when the range closes. There's a weathered confidence in his stance: this isn't his first siege, and it won't be his last. The ballista itself is mounted on a solid tripod base, and the detail in the rope-wound torsion springs and articulated arms is genuinely exceptional.

Whether you're running a coastal campaign, a nautical dungeon crawl, or a sea-battle encounter, this piece pulls double duty as a battlefield objective and a named NPC all at once. It's equally at home on a gaming table or as a display piece for collectors who appreciate finely crafted fantasy war machines.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Run coastal, naval, or pirate-themed D&D and TTRPG campaigns
  • Need a distinctive NPC gunner, siege engineer, or mercenary crewman
  • Want a scene piece that doubles as a battlefield obstacle or objective marker
  • Collect dwarf miniatures or fantasy siege weaponry

Encounter Hook:
The party's ship is becalmed in the harbour when a gruff voice rings out from the dock — a broad-shouldered dwarf with a bandana and a gleam in his eye is cranking the arms of a rotary ballista into position, aiming squarely at their hull. He grins through his beard: the harbourmaster wants three months' docking fees, and Grunni here collects debts the old-fashioned way.
