This is the Piano Mimic by Great Grimoire, and it is one of the most gloriously unhinged creature sculpts you'll find for your tabletop. The model captures two distinct forms: one showing the mimic at rest — a hauntingly convincing grand piano complete with ornate scrollwork, a candelabra, sheet music on the stand, and a padded stool — and one revealing the horror beneath, all arthropod legs, gnashing maw, and predatory menace. Both sculpts are rendered with exceptional detail, from the carved decorative panels to the needle-sharp claws. This is a creature that earns its ambush.
Mimics are some of the most beloved monsters in D&D, and the Piano Mimic takes that concept somewhere genuinely theatrical. Drop this into a haunted manor, a bard college gone wrong, or a vampire lord's music salon and watch your players second-guess every piece of furniture they've ever encountered. Equally at home on a display shelf as it is on the battlemat — this is the kind of sculpt collectors and Dungeon Masters both reach for.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run gothic horror, Ravenloft, or haunted mansion campaigns
- Love trick encounters and table-flipping reveal moments
- Want a genuinely distinctive mimic variant for their collection
- Are building atmospheric dungeon or estate scatter terrain
- Paint display pieces that reward close inspection
Encounter Hook:
The Countess's music room has not been entered since her death three centuries ago — yet every night, just before midnight, the servants swear they can hear a waltz drifting beneath the door. The party opens it to find a single grand piano, lid raised, stool tucked neatly beneath the keys. Then the stool moves first.
Details
Printed at 32mm scale. The plain black base is included separately and attaches easily. Supports are removed before dispatch, though minor marks from the printing process may occasionally be present — these are simple to clean up with a hobby knife or fine sandpaper. Both sculpts are fully cured and ready for priming and painting, or use them straight from the box.
