The Otyugh is one of the most viscerally unsettling creatures in the D&D monster catalogue, and this sculpt by MZ4250 captures exactly why. The miniature depicts the creature mid-lunge: its vast, tooth-lined maw gaping wide at the chest, two barbed tentacles rearing up with serrated ridges along their length, and a third elongated neck craning upward with its cyclopean eye staring blankly ahead. The broad, quadrupedal body is hunched low on clawed feet, giving the whole figure an awful sense of coiled momentum. This is not a creature that waits — it surges.
Otyughs are the grim secret of every dungeon ecosystem: the waste-eaters lurking in sewers, refuse pits, and the deep places no sane adventurer volunteers to search. For Dungeon Masters, this mini is equally at home anchoring a sewer encounter beneath a city, lurking in the bowels of a ruined fortress, or serving as the grim guardian of a dungeon's lower levels. It works just as well on a display shelf — the dynamic pose and grotesque detail make it a genuine centrepiece for collectors who appreciate the weirder corners of the monster compendium.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a grotesque Underdark or sewer-dwelling threat for their campaign
- Want an aberration with a genuinely unsettling table presence
- Are building a dungeon ecosystem with scavengers and hidden horrors
- Collect D&D monsters for display as well as play
Encounter Hook:
The party is tasked with recovering a stolen signet ring tossed into the city's refuse tunnels by a fleeing thief — but the tunnels haven't been quiet lately, and the waste-collector who usually makes this run hasn't come back in three days. The smell hits them first. The sound comes second. The Otyugh comes third.
