Oswald the Bishop is one of the most arresting sculpts in the Great Grimoire range — a towering celestial figure who blurs the line between divine protector and terrifying arbiter of judgement. His vast feathered wings spread wide from a cone-helmeted silhouette, robes flowing in heavy, authoritative folds. From each hand dangle spiked chains ending in caged skulls wreathed in flame — relics of those who failed whatever test he set before them. This is not a merciful angel. This is the kind of celestial the gods send when mercy has already been tried.
On the table, Oswald works brilliantly as a high-CR boss encounter — a fallen or corrupted celestial, a divine inquisitor sent to judge the party's oaths, or the terrifying enforcer of a tyrannical deity. His design also lends itself to chess set use, where the Bishop piece carries new and considerably more ominous meaning. Whether painted in cold silver and bone, or in tarnished gold with deep shadow washes, this sculpt rewards patient brushwork across every feather and chain link.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a divine or fallen celestial boss encounter that commands the table
- Are building a dark fantasy chess set with genuine character
- Want a display piece that doubles as a narrative centrepiece for high-level campaigns
- Play or DM Cleric, Paladin, or Warlock-heavy parties where celestial encounters carry weight
Encounter Hook:
The party arrives at the Vault of Final Oaths to retrieve a cleric's soul — only to find Oswald already there, chains swinging slowly, the names of every broken vow the party has ever made etched into the skulls at his sides. He does not attack. He simply asks: "Which oath do you wish to answer for first?"
Scaled to 35mm. Available with a choice of decorative base — Square (50mm), Round (50mm), or Chess Board (70mm). Please specify your preferred base option at checkout. Supports are removed prior to dispatch; as with all high-detail resin prints, minor surface marks may occasionally occur and are easily cleaned up before priming.
