This set of three arcane scatter pieces brings a distinct flavour of forbidden knowledge to any tabletop scene. The centrepiece is an open tome propped on a reading stand, its pages crowded with anguished, screaming faces — the kind of grimoire that practically begs a cleric to attempt an Identify spell while the rogue argues it's probably fine. Beside it sits a thick leather-bound book with a monstrous beast embossed on the spine, claws splayed and maw open, suggesting something unpleasant may be bound within. The third piece is a ceremonial scroll, wound around ornate spindles and tied with cord, its unfurled parchment hinting at proclamations or prophecies best left unread.

The sculpts read clearly even before a drop of paint is applied — the layered pages, the spine stitching, the texture of aged parchment, and those unmistakeable screaming faces are all crisply rendered. A wash of sepia ink and a dry-brush of off-white is all it takes to make these look as though they've been gathering dust in a lich's library for centuries. A spot of red or purple on the beast embossment and the scroll's spindle caps will make them pop on the table instantly.

Whether you're dressing a wizard's study, stocking a dungeon vault, populating an arcane library encounter, or adding clutter to a villain's lair, these three pieces earn their place on the table every time.

Brilliant for adventurers who:

  • Run wizard towers, arcane libraries, or cursed dungeon rooms
  • Need atmospheric scatter to make their encounter spaces feel lived-in
  • Love prop-style terrain that rewards closer inspection
  • Are painting display dioramas with a dark magic or gothic flavour
  • Want to give players something ominous to touch — or to regret touching

Encounter Hook: The party has been tasked with retrieving the Tome of Sorrows from a collapsed mage's tower. As they comb through the wreckage, they find three suspicious books — each one cold to the touch. The screaming faces in the open grimoire begin to shift. The beast on the leather cover blinks. And the scroll, when a torch is held close, reveals a name — one of the party members' names, written in a hand that shouldn't exist. Which one do they open first?
