This gaunt, shirtless heretic cuts an unsettling silhouette — lean and scarred, with a crown of bone spikes protruding from his skull. He thrusts a long, gnarled bone staff skyward in a gesture of dark supplication, his expression contorted with fervour rather than fear. Strapped across his waist is a grim collection of crude iron-tipped javelins and lashed bones, and a grinning skull trophy hangs at his belt. His lower half is wrapped in ragged, flowing robes that trail into tatters, and his bare feet grip the ground with the certainty of someone who has long since surrendered comfort for conviction.
The sculpt rewards a painter's attention: the texture of the wrapped cloth bindings on his arms contrasts with the smooth stretch of exposed muscle, and the bundle of javelins at his hip offers real depth for layering rust, bone, and shadow. Whether you paint him as a wilderness shaman, a servant of a demon lord, or the half-mad prophet driving your villain's cult, the detail here holds up at every stage.
This variation (#3631) shows the heretic mid-ritual — staff arm fully extended overhead, head tilted back. If you're running a cult encounter with multiple heretic-tier enemies, this pose reads clearly across the table as the one in charge of the chanting.
Particularly well suited for adventurers who:
- Need a compelling cult leader or dark priest NPC for their campaign
- Are building out a Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or wilderness cult encounter
- Want a warlock patron's favoured servant on the table
- Are painting a Chaos devotee, mad prophet, or fallen cleric for display
- Play Dark Sun, Ravenloft, or homebrew dark-faith settings
Encounter Hook: The party has tracked the disappearances to a standing stone circle deep in the forest. As they arrive, they find twelve villagers kneeling in the mud — and the Old Heretic at the centre, staff raised, his chant growing louder as something stirs beneath the earth. He is not surprised to see them. He was expecting them. He says so.
