Description

Once a man of faith, the Old Heretic has shed whatever humanity he had left — bone staff raised, body bristling with ritual spines, he drags himself forward on corrupted limbs towards whatever dark idol he now serves.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

This sculpt captures something deeply unsettling — a figure that reads as neither wholly human nor creature. The Old Heretic's hunched, crawling posture speaks of a body warped by dark ritual: bare feet planted low, powerful frame bent forward as though in frenzied devotion or stalking approach. His torso is bristling with long bone spines erupting from his back and sides — whether bound there by cultist ceremony or grown through corruption, the effect is visceral. A tattered loincloth and rough wrappings at the shin are the only remnants of clothing, stripped back to something feral.

In his raised hand he carries a bone staff crowned with a ring of curved horns or claws — a shaman's focus or a cult relic, depending on how your DM reads him. His expression, broad-faced and jutting-jawed, carries something between a sneer and a ritual trance. The medium 25.5mm base suits him as a medium creature, though his silhouette easily fills the space of something far more threatening.

The detail on this sculpt is exceptional throughout — the ribbed texture of the spines, the sinew and muscle of the arms, and the intricate, almost organic construction of the staff all reward careful painting. He'd look striking in a pallid, corpse-grey scheme with rust-stained bone, or in deep ochres and cult blacks for a desert heresy feel.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Need a cult shaman or corrupted priest for a horror-tinged campaign
  • Are building an Underdark or dark ritual encounter with visual impact
  • Want a creature-adjacent humanoid that sits between NPC and monster
  • Are looking for a centrepiece painting project with strong sculptural texture
  • Run Ravenloft, Planescape, or deep wilderness campaigns where fanaticism festers

Encounter Hook: The party descends into the lower sanctum expecting cultists — what they find instead is a single figure, dragging itself toward a cracked altar with horrifying single-mindedness. The Old Heretic doesn't even look up when they enter. The spines along his back shiver. Somewhere below the stone floor, something answers.
