Description
In the cold shallows of a northern river, a horse stands unnaturally still — its mane hanging like waterlogged shrouds, its teeth a little too many, its eyes a little too knowing.
- ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
The Nykur is drawn from Icelandic folklore: a shape-shifting water spirit that takes the form of a horse to lure the unwary onto its back, dragging them beneath the surface to drown. This sculpt captures that uncanny wrongness brilliantly — at first glance, it reads as a heavy-set, long-maned horse, but look closer and you'll spot the predator beneath. The mane cascades in thick, waterlogged ribbons, the musculature is dense and powerful, and the face carries that telltale wrongness — too many teeth, parted just enough to remind you this is no beast of burden. It stands on a naturalistic base, presented in a calm, patient pose that makes it all the more unsettling. In Scandinavian and Norse-adjacent settings, this is your Fey horror, your river ambush, your cursed steed waiting at the ford.
Whether you're running a low-magic horror campaign, a Feywild excursion gone deeply wrong, or simply want a creature on your shelf that rewards a second look, the Nykur earns its place at the table and beyond it.
An excellent choice for adventurers who:
- Run folklore-inspired D&D or TTRPG campaigns with a horror edge
- Need a Fey beast or cursed creature for river or wilderness encounters
- Want a display piece that repays close inspection
- Are building out a Norse, Scandinavian, or dark Feywild setting
Encounter Hook:
The party's horses have gone lame a day's ride from the nearest village, and a handsome, pale stallion has appeared at the riverbank — calm, bridled, seemingly abandoned. The local farmer who warned them about the ford three days ago said only one word when they described it on their return: Nykur. He went pale. He wouldn't say more.
