This Novice Lich sculpt captures a spellcaster in the earliest — and arguably most dangerous — stage of undead transformation. The skull face is unmistakable, crowned with a small horned crest, while the figure's arms are raised with fingers curled, channelling necrotic or arcane energy. Flowing robes and an open coat billow dramatically around the figure, layered over engraved armour panels decorated with triangular glyphs and ritual sigils. A necklace of bone-like pendants hangs at the chest, reinforcing the sense of a scholar who has gone very far down a very dark road.
The base is alive with sculpted flame-like tendrils rising around the feet, giving the impression of a figure hovering just above the ground — or perhaps drawing power directly from the earth beneath. Crisp detail runs from the textured leather boots to the trailing hem of the coat, making this a rewarding piece to paint whether you're drybrushing necrotic greys or going all-in on glowing eye sockets and spectral greens.
As a Novice Lich, this figure occupies a fascinating narrative space — powerful enough to be a credible threat, but clearly still accumulating the knowledge and phylactery-craft needed to reach true lichdom. That makes them a versatile villain: a recurring antagonist the party might encounter across multiple sessions, growing in power and ambition as the campaign unfolds.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Need a necromancer villain who feels dangerous but not yet at full lich-tier power
- Are running Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or any campaign steeped in undead lore
- Want a memorable recurring antagonist with visual presence at the table
- Play Wizards or Warlocks and want a dark-path alternate character mini
- Are building a display piece around the theme of forbidden arcane ambition
Encounter Hook: The party arrives at the isolated tower of a renowned but reclusive arcanist, only to find the scholar mid-ritual — robes billowing, hands raised, and the unmistakable grin of a skull where a face should be. The transformation is recent. The phylactery is somewhere in this tower. And the Novice Lich has no intention of letting anyone leave before the ritual is complete.
