Northern Tribes Warrior Otter Rider by Epic Miniatures

Where the tundra stretches white and endless, the riders of the northern tribes do not walk — they surge across frozen rivers and snowbound shores atop the great otters, as fast and fearless as the storms that chase them.

This large-format miniature from Epic Miniatures is a genuinely striking mounted piece — a tribal warrior woman in thick fur-trimmed armour, seated confidently astride a giant otter with its jaws open mid-charge. She holds a coiled rope in one hand and a short spear in the other, her posture relaxed but commanding, the kind of rider who has spent more time in the saddle than on foot. Her layered hide-and-scale armour is covered in stitched detail, beaded rope across her chest, and fur-lined boots laced tight for the cold. The otter beneath her is equally well-realised — heavy and muscular, with textured fur, splayed claws, and a wide maw that reads equally well as a guard beast or a trained war mount.
Marked as a large-sized miniature, this piece occupies a bigger footprint than a standard 32mm figure, making it appropriate for Huge or Large creature rules in most systems. The render shows the full composition from the front and a thumbnail side view, confirming a dynamic diagonal posture that photographs and paints beautifully from almost any angle.
Whether she represents a barbarian scout from a frozen coastal clan, a ranger whose animal companion has been with her since birth, or a tribal BBEG descending on the party from across a frozen lake, this miniature brings something genuinely unusual to the table — a mount that isn't a horse, a dragon, or a wolf, and is all the more memorable for it.
A great fit for adventurers who:
- Are running arctic, tundra, or northern wilderness campaign arcs
- Want a Barbarian or Ranger player character with a mounted, tribal feel
- Need a memorable NPC warlord or clan leader for their northern factions
- Appreciate mounted miniatures that break from the standard cavalry formula
- Are building encounter groups around unusual beasts and their handlers
Encounter Hook: The party crosses a frozen river delta in search of a missing supply caravan — only to find it circled by riders on great otters, their mounts pressing the terrified draft horses to the water's edge. The lead rider, rope coiled and ready, demands the party kneel before the river-throne of the Otter Queen. Whether she's a bandit, a territorial protector, or a desperate chieftain whose territory the caravan violated is entirely up to your table.
