Northern Masked Owlbear (Sonatus) by DM Stash
Description
In the frost-bitten forests of the north, rangers speak in hushed tones of the Sonatus Noctursa — the Northern Masked Owlbear — whose hollow, resonant screech carries through the pines like a death knell for anything foolish enough to be caught in its territory after dark.
- ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
The Sonatus Noctursa is no ordinary owlbear. This northern variant is broader, heavier, and crowned with a distinctive layered mask of dense feathers that gives it an almost ceremonial ferocity. Wings spread wide in a threat display, it crouches low over a gnarled woodland base — talons splayed, beak open, every feather rendered with extraordinary depth. The sculpt captures that precise moment before a charge: all coiled muscle and predatory intention. Viewed from behind, the creature's crest fans out in overlapping plumage that hints at something ancient and territorial, like a beast that has never once known fear.
The textured base of broken roots, grass tufts, and mossy earth grounds the creature firmly in a northern wilderness setting, making it equally compelling as a tabletop encounter piece or a display centrepiece in its own right.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run wilderness, forest, or tundra-themed D&D and TTRPG campaigns
- Need a large beast encounter that commands the table's attention
- Enjoy painting feathered textures and layered plumage
- Want a display piece that earns a second look from across the room
Encounter Hook:
The party is three days into the Ashpine Reaches when they find the remains of a scouting party — armour shredded, supplies scattered across a hundred-foot radius. A ranger in the group makes a Survival check and goes pale: the tracks are enormous, the feathers left behind belong to something with a wingspan wider than two men standing side by side, and the screech that just echoed through the canopy is getting closer.
Details
Printed at 32mm scale. The model and base are separate pieces, easily attached with superglue — the two parts are designed to interact, so the base genuinely adds to the finished piece. Arrives with supports removed and fully cured, ready for priming and painting or use straight from the box. Minor imperfections from the print process can occur; these are easily tidied up before painting.
