When the mountain clans march to war, the thunder of axe-hafts on shield-rims announces them long before the battle cry — and at the front stands a dwarf like this one, broad as an ox and twice as stubborn.

This Nordic Dwarf Axe miniature from Epic Miniatures is a seriously detailed sculpt of a dwarven warrior built for the front line. He stands in a wide, grounded stance — feet planted, jaw set, a war-ready grimace on his broad bearded face. His armour is heavily layered, combining scale mail across the torso and shoulders with ornate geometric engravings on the pauldrons, vambraces, and belt plates. A horned helm sits atop his head, lending him the silhouette of a true northern veteran.

The centrepiece of the sculpt is the greataxe he holds trailing at his side — a weapon of impressive scale, its head carved with interlocking knotwork and a winged motif on the lower blade. The haft is etched with rune-like banding, and the whole weapon reads as something passed down through generations, earned rather than bought. His free hand hangs in a loose fist, coiled with readiness. The textured base captures churned, rocky ground — the aftermath of many a battlefield.

This sculpt rewards painters willing to work into the details. The scale mail offers excellent texture contrast against the smoother, engraved plate sections. The beard, brow, and expression lend real personality — this is not an anonymous grunt, but a named warrior with history behind him.

This miniature suits adventurers who:

  • Are running Norse-inspired campaigns, Highland settings, or clan-based dwarven storylines
  • Need a Dwarf Fighter, Paladin, or Barbarian player character mini with serious gravitas
  • Want a memorable named NPC — a clan chieftain, veteran mercenary, or ancestral guardian
  • Are building a dwarven warband for mass encounter play
  • Enjoy painting complex armour textures and character-rich faces

Encounter Hook: The party arrives at a mountain pass only to find it held by a solitary dwarf — axe across his knees, armour weathered but unbroken. He gives them a name: Gormur Ironmantle, last of the Stonewatch. The pass belongs to his clan. They are all dead. He is not leaving. The adventurers must decide whether this immovable warrior is an obstacle, an ally, or a man in need of something no quest marker can offer.
