The Mushroom Boar is a two-part marvel of organic design — a heavily muscled boar whose hide is almost entirely obscured beneath a thick mat of broad leaves, trailing vines, and clusters of mushrooms of varying sizes, all sculpted with impressive botanical detail. The beast's head is low and aggressive, its tusks curved and prominent, its eyes narrowed in a forward charge. Every hoof and claw shows tension, as though the creature is mid-stride, ready to gore anything in its path.
Astride this fungal mount sits a myconid-like rider, their body a tangle of mycelium tendrils, small cap mushrooms, and leafy growth. A large, wide-capped mushroom rises from the top of the figure like a living crown, trailing filaments down the back of the rider in a curtain of organic detail. The rider's arms are spread slightly outward — one raised, fingers spread as though directing the charge or channelling spores. The two figures are so entwined with the same fungal growth that they appear less like beast and rider and more like a single living organism, which is perhaps exactly what they are.
This miniature sits on a medium base (25.5mm) and benefits from a wealth of surface texture — the boar's muscle definition beneath the overgrowth, the layered leaves, the varied mushroom caps — all of which will take a wash beautifully and reward careful drybrushing or wet blending on the cap surfaces.
A great choice for adventurers who:
- Need a Druid wild-shape encounter with serious visual presence
- Are running a myconid colony arc or spore-based adventure in a swamp or forest
- Want a memorable mounted NPC or boss encounter at the frontier of civilisation and wilderness
- Are building a nature-themed display piece that stands apart from standard beast minis
- Play Rangers, Druids, or nature Clerics and want a companion creature with real character
Encounter Hook: The party is tracking a missing herbalist into the Thornwood when the ground begins to tremble. Spores fill the air — first a faint sweetness, then something older and more unsettling. Through the trees crashes a boar blanketed in living fungus, ridden by a figure that seems to be growing from its back rather than seated upon it. The myconid speaks in the shared language of spore-pulses — it does not want to harm the adventurers. It wants them to turn back. Whatever is behind them in the forest is following, and even the Mushroom Boar will not face it alone.
