Description

In the deepest passages of the Underdark, where spores drift like snow and the air tastes of rot, a thundering shape bursts from the dark — a boar so thoroughly consumed by fungal growth that it is no longer clear where the beast ends and the mycelium begins.

This is the Mushroom Boar — caught in a full mid-air leap, one foreleg thrust upward, its powerful haunches launching it off the ground with surprising ferocity. The sculpt is packed with wild detail: dense clusters of mushroom caps and tendrils erupt across the boar's back, shoulders, and flanks, colonising nearly every surface of its body. A large flat-capped fungus spreads across its back like a grotesque saddle, while smaller stalks and fruiting bodies spiral upward from its spine. The beast's face is half-buried beneath layered growths, suggesting it has long since lost any will of its own to the spore-mind that drives it.

The posing is genuinely dynamic — this is not a creature standing at rest, but one caught in violent motion, lunging forward with the single-minded aggression that makes fungal-corrupted beasts so terrifying in enclosed dungeon spaces. The texture work throughout is exceptional: the rough, hide-like skin of the boar contrasts beautifully with the soft, layered surfaces of the mushroom growth, giving painters a wealth of different textures to work across. Whether you lean into earthy browns and bioluminescent blues or go full necrotic greens, this sculpt will reward the effort.

On the tabletop, the Mushroom Boar fits naturally as a Myconid-controlled beast, an awakened fungal creature, or simply a corrupted animal encountered in a spore-choked cavern. It works equally well as a display piece — the dramatic jump pose makes it a centrepiece that draws the eye from every angle.

A good choice for adventurers who:

  • Run Underdark campaigns featuring Myconid colonies or spore-corrupted wildlife
  • Need dynamic beast miniatures with strong visual presence on the board
  • Want a challenging and rewarding painting project with varied textures
  • Are building an Underdark diorama or display collection

Encounter Hook: The party hears it before they see it — a rhythmic, wet thudding echoing through the tunnel, growing louder with each heartbeat. When the Mushroom Boar explodes out of the side passage, it is moving fast, spores trailing in its wake. The Myconid Sovereign directing it from three rooms away doesn't need to win the fight — it just needs the party distracted long enough for the spores to do their work.
