The Mossfather is a wonderfully characterful sculpt from Great Grimoire — an ancient, gnarled figure that sits somewhere between a forest spirit, a fey elder, and a nature-worshipping hermit of immense power. His hunched, heavy-robed form is adorned with clusters of wild mushrooms sprouting from his shoulders, and his tattered cloak falls in jagged, bark-like layers behind him. A long, twisted wooden staff with a runic iron ring at its crown is held firmly in one clawed hand, while the other gestures with unsettling purpose. His bearded, pointed-eared face carries the weathered shrewdness of something that has outlasted empires.

Printed at 35mm scale, this miniature has substantial presence on the tabletop. The sculpt is rich in surface detail — every fold of his layered robe, every cap on the mushrooms growing from his back, every gnarled knuckle on his staff hand has been rendered with care. The back of the cloak features a distinctive wave-like, bark-textured pattern that makes him immediately recognisable from any angle. He works brilliantly with earthy, natural colour palettes — think deep forest greens, lichen greys, rich umbers — but would equally reward a more unsettling scheme for a corrupted or sinister interpretation.

Whether he is a druid elder the party must seek out for forbidden knowledge, a neutral spirit of the wood with his own inscrutable agenda, or a slow-burning BBEG whose mycelial influence has been quietly poisoning the land for decades, the Mossfather brings genuine narrative weight to the table.

This miniature suits adventurers who:

  • Run forest encounters, Feywild delves, or nature-cult storylines
  • Need a memorable NPC druid, ancient fey spirit, or fungal elder
  • Want a centrepiece figure with real painting depth
  • Are building a display collection of character-driven sculpts
  • Love miniatures with distinctive, immediately readable silhouettes

Encounter Hook: The party has been sent deep into the Verdant Marches to investigate why livestock near the treeline are dying with strange, pale fungi blooming from their flesh. At the heart of the rot, crouched atop a deadfall ridge, they find the Mossfather — who does not deny what he has done, and offers them a choice the village elder never mentioned was possible.
