This illithid sorcerer stands apart from the skulking thralls and grey-robed attendants of the colony. Robed in long ceremonial vestments etched with arcane sigils and spiral wards, this Mind Flayer carries a towering corrupted staff crowned with a grotesque, fleshy mass of bone and sinew — a focus for powers that bend thought and break sanity with equal ease. Its tentacled face is framed by writhing appendages that cascade like dark hair, and one clawed hand is raised mid-gesture, channelling something terrible and unseen. The cracked, tentacle-strewn base beneath its feet suggests a place where the Far Realm has already begun bleeding through.
Sculpted with an extraordinary level of surface detail — every rune on the robes, every barb along the staff, and every individual tendril around the face is crisply defined — this miniature rewards careful painting and commands attention equally well straight from a well-chosen primer. Whether you deploy it as a Mind Flayer Arcanist, an Elder Brain emissary, or the mastermind behind an entire arc of Underdark intrigue, it carries genuine presence on the table.
A great fit for adventurers who:
- Need a commanding, lore-rich BBEG for an Underdark or Far Realm campaign
- Want a centrepiece villain with both arcane gravitas and body-horror detail
- Are building display collections of aberrations, eldritch entities, or iconic D&D monsters
- Enjoy ambitious painting projects with deep texture and layered detail to bring out
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking a string of disappearances across three coastal towns — fishermen, scholars, harbour masters — all gone without a trace. When they finally descend into the flooded cavern network beneath the old lighthouse, they find the missing souls standing silent in a circle, eyes vacant, as a robed figure at the centre finishes the last rune of a ritual that will open a permanent channel to somewhere that should not be reachable. It turns. It raises its staff. It has already read every plan they had before they drew breath to speak.
