The Mind Flayer is one of D&D's most iconic villains: a psionic predator of cold intelligence, capable of bending entire communities to its will from the shadows of the Underdark. This sculpt from Monster Atlas captures the creature at its most unsettling — robed in dark layered cloth with a skull-buckled bone-chain belt, armoured pauldrons at the shoulders, and a deep crimson hood framing that unmistakable cephalopod face. The tentacles curl and writhe with restless menace, while both hands are raised mid-gesture — one poised to cast, the other reaching outward with grasping, clawed fingers. This is not a monster caught off-guard. This is a predator choosing its moment.
The sculpt is available in three distinct poses, each capturing a different facet of the illithid's psychic authority. This listing presents all three so you can pick the one that suits your encounter — or collect the full set for a colony of cerebral terror.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a powerful villain or mastermind NPC for an Underdark arc
- Are running campaigns involving illithid colonies, elder brains, or mind-controlled townsfolk
- Want a characterful display piece that rewards a detailed paint scheme
- Are building a themed collection of aberrations and psionic horrors
Encounter Hook:
The party is hired to investigate a noble's estate where the staff have become eerily compliant — speaking only in monotone, moving in perfect unison, and all staring at the same blank patch of wall at precisely midnight. The steward, when pressed, simply smiles and says: "The Master will see you now." From the cellar comes the faint, wet sound of something breathing through water.
Details
Printed at 32mm scale. The model and base are separate pieces — attach with superglue. The decorative base is included and recommended, as some poses interact with it. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming. Minor support marks are possible due to the nature of resin printing; these are easily tidied up before painting.
