The Mind Pirate Captain is one of tabletop gaming's most gloriously unhinged concepts made miniature reality — a mind flayer who has fully committed to the pirate aesthetic. Dressed in a flowing greatcoat with ruffled cuffs, this illithid villain strides with the swagger of someone who has claimed the high seas through sheer psychic dominance. Those writhing facial tentacles hang below a sturdy iron-banded treasure chest that sits atop his shoulders in place of a head — or perhaps that chest is the head. With mind flayers, it is genuinely difficult to say.

The sculpt captures a marvellous tension between high-seas theatrics and deep aberrant horror. The greatcoat billows dramatically, the belt is buckled with mercantile precision, and one hand grips the chest with proprietary confidence — this is not someone who found that treasure. This is someone who psychically compelled the previous owner to hand it over and then forget they ever had it.
