This is Variation 01 of the Mind Flayer Arcanist — a front-facing casting pose that puts all the dread detail on full display. Both arms are raised, one hand splayed wide in a gesture of arcane release, the other clawed and drawn close as though weaving a second simultaneous spell. The tentacles writhe outward from the distinctive illithid face, framed by an eruption of bone-like spines that crown the skull like a grotesque diadem.

The robes are richly detailed — flowing fabric etched with rune-like script along the hem and split by a decorative front panel, bound at the waist by a belt bearing a skull-faced medallion with chains hanging at either side. The spiked pauldrons suggest martial authority, while the overall silhouette — long cape sweeping behind, arms wide in command — reads immediately as a being accustomed to absolute obedience from lesser minds.

This sculpt from Novaminis carries their hallmark of 'monsters with character' — there is genuine menace in the pose, but also a cold intellectual arrogance that makes this illithid feel less like a random encounter and more like an architect of catastrophe with centuries of patience.
