This is Mind Flayer 01 from Novaminis — the first variation in their illithid range, and one that wears its menace with unmistakable authority. The figure stands tall in long, rune-etched robes that trail to the base, conveying both the unearthly stillness and latent violence of a creature that has never needed to hurry. Four facial tentacles hang freely beneath a broad, hairless cranium flanked by swept-back bony protrusions, giving the head a crown-like silhouette that reads unmistakably as both alien and terrifyingly intelligent.

The sculpt layers detail with real intent. Spiked pauldrons and spiked bracers break up the robes with hard, martial geometry, while a heavy skull-buckled belt cinches the waist. A length of heavy chain hangs from the belt to the lower robe — a trophy, a tool, or a threat, depending on your interpretation. In one hand, the Mind Flayer grips a severed bestial skull, claws curled with casual possessiveness; the other hand hangs open and reaching, fingers splayed as if already beginning a psionic grasp. The robe itself is covered in fine surface relief — layered symbols and scale-like texture that rewards close painting.

This variation (01) presents the illithid in a composed, almost contemplative pose — one that suggests it has already won, and merely waits for its enemies to realise it. Adventurers collecting across the Novaminis illithid range will find this sculpt works as a lead figure, an elder arcanist, or a mind flayer arcanist variant with distinctive visual weight.
