The Mimic Tree is one of those miniatures that does exactly what it promises — and does it with gleeful menace. Rendered as a large conifer bristling with layered, detailed foliage, it conceals a grotesque predator beneath: a wide-open maw filled with jagged teeth, clawed limbs reaching out from beneath the boughs, and stubby, root-like feet that give away the game just a moment too late for the party's ranger. The sculpt captures the exact moment of revelation — the tree is done pretending.

This is a large-sized miniature, noticeably bigger than a standard 32mm figure, which makes it a genuinely imposing centrepiece on the tabletop. The layered needle detail across the canopy is crisp throughout, and the creature's face — buried mid-trunk behind that enormous gaping mouth — has real character: beady eyes, curling horns, and an expression of deeply satisfied hunger. It also works beautifully as a decorative piece for a nature- or forest-themed display shelf, sitting somewhere between monster and terrain.

The image shows a digital render in raw resin orange, with a d20 for scale reference — confirming this as a genuinely large piece. A plain tree variant (without the exposed monster form) appears in the background of the render, suggesting a possible companion piece or alternative use as disguised terrain before the reveal.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Run wilderness, forest, or druid-themed campaigns and want an ambush encounter that catches players completely off guard
  • Love plant-type monsters and want something with more personality than a standard treant
  • Enjoy painting challenge pieces — the contrast between lush foliage and grotesque flesh offers real variety
  • Want a display piece that bridges the gap between terrain and monster miniature

Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to investigate a logging camp where workers have gone missing. When they arrive, the clearing is silent — and slightly too full of pine trees for the size of the space. The druid's Speak with Plants spell returns nothing. Because these are not plants.
