Mimic Tree Big by Epic Miniatures
Description
The forest path looked safe — until one of the trees stepped forward, bark splitting into a hollow maw and skeletal limbs reaching through the needled canopy.

At first glance, it is simply a large pine — broad-layered boughs of dense needles tapering to a sharp crown. Look closer and the deception unravels: a hollow cavity gapes at the base of the trunk like a toothless maw, gnarled root-feet grip the earth with unsettling purpose, and skeletal branch-limbs jut outward from the mid-section, reaching and grasping. This is no ordinary woodland sentinel. This is a Mimic Tree — one of the forest's most patient and ruthless predators.
The sculpt is a large-sized creature, and the detail rewards that scale generously. The layered foliage is crisp and naturalistic from the crown down, creating an entirely convincing silhouette that makes the creature's true nature all the more disturbing on second glance. That hollow bole with its curling bark-lips is the centrepiece of the reveal — the moment your players realise the grove is watching them back. The articulated claw-limbs emerging from the lower branches add a spindly, predatory menace that contrasts brilliantly with the otherwise serene treeline aesthetic.
As a Large creature, this mini commands table presence. Painted in autumnal bark tones with deep shadow washes in the hollow, or rendered as a winter-deadened pine with pale grey foliage and frost effects, it will anchor any wilderness or fey encounter with genuine atmosphere.
Brilliant for adventurers who:
- Run forest, fey, or wilderness encounters with an element of environmental dread
- Want a Large-sized creature that genuinely surprises players at the reveal
- Love ambush-predator monsters with a shapeshifter or mimic flavour
- Need a distinctive centrepiece mini that doubles as a display piece
- Are building out a sentient-forest or corrupted-woodland campaign arc
Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking a missing woodcutter for two days when they find his axe embedded in the bark of a particularly large pine at the edge of a clearing. As the ranger steps forward to examine it, the tree shudders — and the axe is still lodged in its side as it turns towards them.
Details
This is a Large-scale miniature — noticeably bigger than a standard 32mm figure. A scale reference image is included showing the tree alongside a d20, giving a clear sense of its commanding footprint on the table.
