Mimics are among the most dreaded creatures in any dungeon, not for their strength, but for their patience. This Mimic Desk sculpt from Novaminis captures that dreadful moment of revelation in miniature form: a perfectly ordinary writing desk, complete with drawer and worn wooden grain, suddenly unmasking a gaping maw of crocodilian teeth and ridged, scaled flesh. The contrast between the mundane furniture and the grotesque creature bursting from within it is what makes this sculpt so effective — at a glance it reads as scatter terrain; look closer and your players will feel that familiar prickle of paranoia.
This is Mimic Desk 01, the open-maw variant, showing the creature mid-reveal with its jaws wide and tongue lolling — pure chaos energy frozen at the perfect moment. The sculpt also includes a matching plain desk and chair as companion pieces, adding tremendous value for dressing a study, library, or wizard's chamber before the horror begins. Encounter Hook:
The party is searching the dead archivist's study for the missing journal. Three desks line the wall. The Dungeon Master places all three minis on the table and says nothing. The players must choose which one to search first — and they all look exactly the same.
Scaled to 32mm. Available with or without a plain black base; the base is supplied unattached and can be affixed with a small amount of glue. The sculpt arrives with supports removed and is ready for priming and painting straight away. As with all hand-finished resin work, minor surface marks are possible — these are easily cleaned up during prep.
