Mimics are among the most beloved monsters in the dungeon master's arsenal: patient, shapeshifting predators that turn the familiar into the fatal. This sculpt captures that duality brilliantly, offering two distinct states in one listing. The first variation shows the mimic fully revealed — its scaled, reptilian maw gaping wide from beneath the wingback cushion, rows of serrated teeth and a thick tongue spilling forward as the disguise collapses. The second is the mimic at rest, appearing as a perfectly ordinary tufted leather armchair, complete with studded upholstery, round wooden feet, and bolster arm caps. Both versions are sculpted with exceptional surface detail — the contrast between the smooth, stitched leather of the chair and the rough, scaly hide of the creature beneath makes for a genuinely striking paint project.
Whether you're planting it as a trap in a merchant's parlour, a villain's throne room, or a cursed manor house, this piece does the narrative heavy lifting the moment it hits the table. It works equally well as a gaming piece and as a display centrepiece for any collection celebrating D&D's most paranoia-inducing creature type.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Want to terrify their players with a classic furniture-based ambush
- Are building a dungeon dressing scatter terrain collection
- Love painting creature reveals with dramatic before-and-after detail
- Collect Mimic miniatures in all their glorious, toothy variety
- Enjoy display pieces with a dark sense of humour
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking a string of disappearances in a noble's estate — guests invited to wait in the sitting room who never made it to dinner. When the rogue finally examines the wingback chair in the corner, they notice the upholstery is warm, and breathing. Initiative.
Scaled to 32mm and supplied print-ready for priming and painting. A plain black display base is available as an optional add-on and comes unattached — a small amount of glue is all that's needed to fix it in place. As with all hand-finished resin work, minor surface marks may occasionally be present; these are easily tidied up before painting and we quality-check every piece before it leaves us.
