Mimic Chair by Novaminis
Description
It looks like an ordinary tavern chair — four legs, a rounded back, a perfectly inviting seat — right up until the moment it isn't.
- ✔ Resin terrain piece, printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted — primes and paints easily
- ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
- ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama
This is the Mimic Chair 01 from Novaminis, and it captures the creature mid-reveal: the wooden backrest splitting apart to expose a grotesque face, rows of jagged teeth erupting from what was once a seat, and a thick, coiling tongue lunging forward from a cavernous maw. The sculpt includes two separate states — the innocuous closed form of a plain wooden chair, and the fully transformed, wide-open horror — giving Dungeon Masters everything they need to stage the reveal at the table. The woodgrain texture across both versions is exquisitely detailed, making the disguised version genuinely convincing on a dungeon dressing tile.
Mimics are one of D&D's most beloved trick encounters — and a mimic shaped like furniture rather than a chest adds a layer of paranoia your players won't see coming. Whether it's lurking in a throne room, a wizard's study, or a ransacked inn, the Mimic Chair earns its place in any dungeon encounter and looks equally at home on a display shelf.
Suited for adventurers who:
- Want to run a classic mimic ambush with a furniture twist
- Are building a dungeon scatter terrain collection
- Love detailed monster minis that double as display pieces
- Enjoy painting transformation and reveal moments into a single model
Encounter Hook:
The party enters the abandoned guild hall and finds the furniture undisturbed — until the rogue, ever cautious, notices that one chair near the fireplace has no dust on it whatsoever. Roll Initiative.
Scaled to 32mm. Supplied with an optional plain black base, which comes unattached and can be affixed with a small amount of glue. Supports are removed before dispatch; as with all resin miniatures, minor marks from the printing process may occasionally be present and are straightforward to clean up. Ready for priming and painting straight from the box.
