Millie Dough is the kind of NPC who anchors a settlement. Dressed in a flowing skirt with a neat bow at the back and a laced bodice at the front, her long braided hair tied with a small ribbon at the collar, she stands with one hand resting on her hip and a rolling pin loosely held at her side — the quiet authority of someone who runs her bakery and her business with equal confidence. Her expression carries a knowing smile, the sort that suggests she's heard every rumour the town has to offer and filed it away for later.
Whether she's the warm-hearted quest-giver who slips a note inside a loaf of bread, the sharp-eared informant who trades gossip for coin, or the unlikely witness to something far darker than her cheerful demeanour suggests — Millie brings immediate texture to any village, market town, or rural settlement. She's equally at home on a gaming table mid-session or painted up for a display shelf as a character study in everyday fantasy life.
A good fit for adventurers who:- Need a memorable named NPC for a village, inn, or market setting
- Are running a mystery or investigation arc and need civilian witnesses
- Want a halfling character mini with genuine warmth and personality
- Enjoy painting character studies with expressive faces and fabric detail
- Are building a settlement diorama or NPC roster for long campaigns
Encounter Hook:
The party arrives in the village of Millhaven to find it unsettled — livestock missing, a barn burned, and the local guard baffled. Nobody will talk. Nobody, that is, except the baker on the corner, who presses a still-warm loaf into the ranger's hands and murmurs, just loudly enough: "The mill wheel stopped turning three nights ago. Thought you might want to know."
