Archmage (Mordenkainen) by Monster Atlas

The archmage's cloak billows as he raises his staff and extends one hand — not in greeting, but in the measured, deliberate gesture of a man who has already calculated exactly how this confrontation will end.

• ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK

This sculpt captures a senior archmage at the height of his power — not the hunched, wild-eyed wizard of cliché, but a commanding figure radiating controlled authority. Long flowing robes fall in sweeping folds to the ground, their weight and movement conveying a man who strides between planes as casually as others cross a courtyard. A heavy cloak with a dramatic raised collar frames a bearded face set with hard-won confidence. Decorative chains hang at the chest, a broad studded belt cinches the robes at the waist, and an ornate short blade is secured at his side — a reminder that archmages do not survive centuries by relying on magic alone.

In his left hand he grips a forked, branch-like staff, its upper tips splitting into jagged tines that suggest lightning, divination, or stranger forces still. His right arm is extended outward, fingers splayed — whether casting a cantrip or holding back a tidal wave of arcane energy is left entirely to your interpretation. The expression on his bearded face is intent and stern: this is a man mid-decision, and the universe is about to feel the consequences.

The sculpt works beautifully as a Mordenkainen-style archmage, a Forgotten Realms wizard lord, a Circle of Arcana guildmaster, or the most dangerous NPC your party has ever had the misfortune of antagonising. Equally, he makes a compelling player character miniature for any Wizard or Sorcerer who has reached the point where they simply don't run from fights anymore.

This miniature suits adventurers who:

• Need a high-level archmage NPC with real presence at the table
• Are playing a Wizard or Sorcerer reaching the apex of their power
• Want a Mordenkainen-adjacent figure for Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk campaigns
• Are building a display piece representing the classic fantasy spellcaster archetype
• Need a BBEG or powerful ally with commanding visual weight

Encounter Hook: The party arrives at the Arcane Convocation expecting to receive their charter — instead they find the assembled council frozen mid-argument, every mage trapped in amber-coloured stasis except one. At the head of the chamber stands a robed figure, staff raised, one hand outstretched toward the doors the adventurers just walked through. He speaks before they can: "I was wondering when you'd arrive. Sit down. We have a great deal to discuss, and very little time."
