Martha Herbwise is a beautifully sculpted village herbalist and apothecary NPC, part of the Great Grimoire Great Folks II range. She stands weathered and knowing, one hand gripping a gnarled walking staff topped with a bone-white handle, the other hovering over her workbench with quiet authority. Her hooded robes and layered apron are decorated with sculpted flower sprigs — rosettes tucked into her belt and chest — and her expression carries the particular shrewdness of someone who has heard every lie an adventurer has ever told. The accompanying workbench is packed with character: flasks, vials, a bulbous potion bottle, a well-worn mortar, scattered roots and cuttings, a thick tome, and a wide ceramic bowl heaped with ingredients. As a scene piece, the two elements together evoke a fully realised settlement location — a market stall, a back-room apothecary, or a witch's cottage threshold.
Martha works equally well as a quest-giver with secrets she refuses to volunteer, a potion-seller who charges twice the going rate for information, or an unexpectedly formidable NPC when cornered. For display collectors, the detail in both the figure and the scatter-laden workbench makes this a centrepiece-worthy piece in any fantasy diorama.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need a memorable small-town NPC to anchor a settlement scene
- Want a herbalist, hedge witch, or apothecary for their D&D or TTRPG campaign
- Are building a market, village square, or tavern back-room encounter
- Collect character-rich fantasy miniatures for display as well as play
Encounter Hook:
The party arrives in the village of Thornwick to find the well has run dry and the livestock are dying. The only person who seems unsurprised is Martha Herbwise, who has been quietly stockpiling remedies for three weeks. She'll share what she knows — but only if the adventurers retrieve something she lost in the marsh seven years ago. She doesn't say what it is. She doesn't look worried. That's the part that should concern them.
