Description

The distant screech cuts through the mountain air before the shadow falls — wings spread wide, mane bristling, and a mouth full of serrated teeth already open in a hunting cry.

  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs

The manticore is one of the great signature monsters of the tabletop — a winged predator that combines raw physical menace with an almost intelligent cruelty. This sculpt by MZ4250 captures it mid-flight and fully committed to the kill: batlike wings flung wide, clawed limbs reaching forward, and that iconic lion-like maned head thrown open in a savage snarl. The spined mane radiates outward like a crown of thorns, and the tail — whip-thin and barbed — curves around behind, ready to skewer anything that tries to flank it. Every element of the sculpt reads as motion: this is not a creature at rest.

The surface detail is characteristically sharp for MZ4250's work — musculature defined beneath the skin, wing membranes showing natural stretch and texture, and the facial expression landing somewhere between animal hunger and something disturbingly aware. It's the kind of mini that earns a pause at the table when it hits the mat.

Whether you're running a mountain ambush, a desert patrol gone very wrong, or statting up a Lawful Evil warlord's aerial cavalry, the manticore fills the role with conviction. Painted up, it's equally compelling as a display piece — the mid-flight pose gives painters strong opportunities for directional OSL, dynamic shading across the wings, and a striking centrepiece effect on any shelf.

  • Adventurers who want a classic D&D monster with genuine table presence
  • Dungeon Masters building out wilderness or mountain encounter rosters
  • Painters looking for a dynamic winged creature with strong surface detail to work with
  • Collectors who want a recognisable monster sculpt that doesn't compromise on character

Encounter Hook: The merchant convoy was three hours from the mountain pass when the first wagon horse reared and bolted — something had blocked out the sun. Now the screaming has stopped, and only one survivor is sprinting back down the trail, pointing skyward and unable to form words. The party has one round before the manticore banks for its second pass.
