Don't let the word "baby" fool anyone at your table. This juvenile manticore is caught mid-lunge — haunches coiled, front paws raking outward, and a wide-open snarl on its lion-like face that makes clear it has absolutely no regard for its own size. The sculpt captures a creature in motion: all snap and spring, wings half-spread, tail curling behind as it throws itself into the attack. It's a ferocious little silhouette that reads instantly as dangerous, even at 32mm scale.
Epic Miniatures have given this piece a tremendous amount of character for a creature that's technically still a youngling. The leathery bat-wings are folded and dynamic rather than spread flat, the segmented tail and scaled belly add real texture depth, and the articulated armour-like plating across the limbs suggests this creature has been running wild through hostile terrain long enough to have developed its own natural toughening. It paints up beautifully as either a lone ambush predator or the terrifying advance scout for something much bigger behind it.
As a multipart miniature, the components fit together cleanly and offer a satisfying assembly before you get to primer. Two base options are available — a plain base for integration into custom basing schemes, or a decorative base that adds immediate scenic context to the miniature right out of the box.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Want an encounter creature that signals danger without filling the whole battlemap
- Are running wilderness, mountain, or desert campaigns where manticores roam
- Need a young manticore for a narrative involving a larger pride or nest
- Enjoy painting expressive, dynamic sculpts with strong silhouettes
- Are building out a beast collection for varied encounter variety
Encounter Hook
The party crests a rocky ridgeline at dusk, half a day from the village that hired them. A shriek splits the air — not the deep roar they were warned about, but something younger and angrier. A juvenile manticore, separated from its mother, launches itself from a boulder not ten feet away. It has no fear. It has only hunger. And somewhere in the darkness behind it, something far larger stirs.
