Few creatures capture the raw, untamed power of a frozen wilderness quite like the woolly mammoth. This sculpt by Epic Miniatures is a genuinely imposing piece — mounted on a huge 76.5mm oval base, it occupies the table with the kind of physical presence a Huge-category beast demands. Every inch of the sculpt is covered in deeply textured, layered fur: long shaggy guard hairs sweep down the flanks and belly, a dense mane crowns the domed head, and tightly coiled tufts gather around the thick legs and feet. The level of detail across the coat is remarkable — each layer of fur sits at a slightly different angle, giving the whole creature a sense of weight and movement even in static form.
The great curved tusks sweep wide and low, deeply ridged along their length, and the face carries a believable, almost weathered look — small eyes set deep beneath a heavy brow, a trunk curling naturally at rest. The mammoth stands in a calm, alert pose rather than a rearing charge, which makes it equally useful as a herd animal in the background of a wider encounter or as a singular, dominant force bearing down on the party. Two images show front-quarter and rear-quarter angles, revealing just how thorough the sculpt is from every direction — there are no flat or underworked surfaces to be found.
Whether you're running a campaign across the frozen wastes, staging an encounter with a barbarian tribe riding war-mammoths, or simply building a collection of iconic prehistoric megafauna, this miniature has the scale and the detail to carry the moment.
This miniature would suit adventurers who:
- Run arctic, tundra, or Ice Age-themed D&D or Pathfinder campaigns
- Need a Huge-category beast encounter with genuine table presence
- Want to represent a domesticated or war-trained mammoth for tribal or barbarian warbands
- Are building a display collection of prehistoric or wilderness megafauna
- Enjoy a technically demanding, texture-rich painting project
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to escort a Reghed tribe's sacred mammoth — the last of its bloodline — across three days of open tundra to a winter gathering. On the second night, the tracks of rival hunters appear in the snow: not human. Something large, fast, and very hungry is circling the camp, and the mammoth knows it.
Details
This miniature is supplied unpainted and unassembled if applicable. It sits on a huge 76.5mm oval base. The sculpt is rich in surface detail and rewards careful priming and layered painting — drybrushing the fur coat in warm browns and cream tones, with deeper shadows in the recesses, will bring out everything the sculpt has to offer.
