Every harbour town has a dozen of him — the broad-shouldered deckhand who shifts cargo, drinks hard, and asks fewer questions than his employer would like. This miniature captures that archetype with real character: he strides forward with a heavy wooden barrel hoisted over one shoulder, one fist clenched at his side, jaw set and expression somewhere between surly and purposeful. A short blade rides at his hip, half-tucked beneath his belt — just in case the dockside conversation turns unfriendly.
The sculpt leans into the working-class seafarer aesthetic: simple, practical clothing with wrappings at the legs and boots, a headband pulling back his hair, and a satchel strap across his chest. There's no armour, no magic, no theatrics — just a man doing a job, and doing it with the quiet menace of someone who's been doing it long enough to know exactly how it can go wrong.
Whether you need a background figure to populate a busy harbour scene, a quest-giver with a dodgy reputation, or the starting point for a barroom brawl encounter, this mini earns its place on the table. He also paints up brilliantly as a low-level sailor NPC, a rogue's contact, or even a fighter or rogue player character who prefers to keep things practical.
This miniature works brilliantly for adventurers who:
- Run port cities, pirate campaigns, or seafaring adventures
- Need sailors, dock workers, or tavern muscle for encounter variety
- Want a grounded, realistic NPC who tells a story without saying a word
- Are building out urban or nautical scatter scenes with populated figures
- Play rogues or fighters who favour a working-class, street-level aesthetic
Encounter Hook: The party arrives at the docks of Saltmere to intercept a stolen shipment — only to find every deckhand on the wharf has been paid handsomely to forget they saw anything. This particular fellow is hauling a barrel that clanks suspiciously with every step, and he's walking very quickly in the wrong direction.
