Mad Mage (Halaster Blackcloak) by Monster Atlas

This is Halaster Blackcloak — the Mad Mage of Undermountain — rendered here as a wild-eyed archmage mid-incantation, his whole body given over to the casting. One clawed hand reaches upward as though tearing something from the air itself, whilst the other thrusts a gnarled staff topped with a draconic head toward the heavens. His tattered robes billow around him, covered in unsettling eye-like motifs and ghostly faces caught in the fabric — as though the souls of those who dared his dungeon are woven into him now. Small horns curl from his temples above a long, ragged beard, and his expression is one of complete, consuming fury. There is no ambiguity here: this is a man who has looked into the abyss and found it agreeable company.
The sculpt captures Halaster at his most theatrically terrifying — a figure who belongs at the centre of your most memorable campaign moments. Whether you're running Dungeon of the Mad Mage and need the man himself, or you're building your own archmage villain with centuries of grievances and a labyrinth full of traps, this miniature carries that energy in every detail. Equally at home on a gaming table as the centrepiece of a display shelf.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Are running Dungeon of the Mad Mage and want the archmage himself on the table
- Need a high-CR archmage villain or unhinged spellcaster NPC
- Want a commanding display piece that reads as dangerous from across the room
- Are building a Wizard or Warlock character with a deeply unsettling backstory
Encounter Hook:
The party has descended to the fourteenth level of the dungeon when the torches gutter and a voice fills the chamber — calm, almost amused. Halaster steps from the shadow of a collapsed archway, staff raised and hand outstretched, and tells them they have exactly one minute to explain why they are in his home before he decides whether any of them are interesting enough to keep alive.
Details
Supplied at 32mm scale. The miniature and decorative base are separate pieces — a small amount of super glue will bring them together, and the base has been sculpted to complement the figure directly. Arrives unpainted and ready for priming, or use straight from the box if you prefer the raw grey aesthetic. Some minor marks from support removal may occasionally be present and are easily tidied up.
