The Mimic is one of tabletop RPG's most beloved and dreaded monsters, and Mia Kay M3DM's Lute Mimic brings that paranoid energy to life with gleeful precision. This sculpt depicts a round-bodied lute resting on a cobblestone base, its soundhole ringed with sinuous carvings — and in one variant, the body begins to peel open, revealing the gaping maw lurking beneath the polished wood grain. It's a centrepiece that works equally well as a sprung trap, a dungeon dressing piece, or a wry nod to every bard player who's ever been a little too trusting.

Two sculpts are available in this range: one showing the lute in its deceptive resting state, the other mid-reveal with the creature's jaws beginning to emerge. Both sit on detailed cobblestone bases and capture Mia Kay's characteristic blend of dark humour and sharp detail.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Run D&D 5e or TTRPG campaigns featuring Mimics, dungeon traps, or paranoid loot rooms
  • Want a conversation-starting scatter piece or dungeon prop
  • Are building a bard-themed encounter or a particularly cruel musical interlude
  • Collect display miniatures with wit and character baked into the sculpt

Encounter Hook:
The party enters a ransacked minstrel's quarters — instruments strewn across the floor, sheet music torn, a single lute propped neatly against the far wall. The rogue's Perception check reveals nothing unusual. The bard reaches for it anyway. Roll for initiative.

Scaled to 32mm. Two sculpt variants are available: one with the lute in its closed, deceptive pose (single piece, attached to base), and one mid-reveal with the mimic's jaws beginning to open (base detached, easily glued). Both arrive ready to prime and paint, or display straight from the box. Supports are removed as standard; minor marks from the printing process may occasionally be present and are simple to tidy up.
