The Lord of the Forest is not a guardian — it is a reckoning. This mounted figure rises tall atop a savage, scaled beast draped in skull-adorned barding, its clawed feet gripping the earth with predatory purpose. The rider's skeletal visage peers from beneath a hooded cloak, crowned with a wide rack of antlers that sprawl and twist like dead branches in winter. One arm reaches upward, clawed fingers curled mid-incantation, while the other rests in a posture of cold, sovereign authority. The body is wrapped in layered armour and bone-like protrusions, with bird skulls and small fetishes worked into the detail — every surface telling a story of dark communion with the natural world. Wisp-like tendrils of sculpted smoke coil behind the antlers, lending the figure an ethereal, unsettling presence.
The mount beneath is every bit as striking: heavily textured with overlapping scales and dense fur at the shoulders, its long spiked tail sweeps wide. Human skulls hang from its leather tack — trophies, or perhaps offerings. It is a creature that belongs to no bestiary you would willingly open.
Whether you need a Dungeon Master's centrepiece BBEG, a druidic lich sovereign, or a corrupted nature deity for your homebrew pantheon, the Lord of the Forest carries the narrative weight to anchor an entire campaign arc.
- Dungeon Masters building a corrupted forest or blighted grove encounter
- Players running a dark druid, death-touched ranger, or nature warlock
- Collectors drawn to large, complex mounted sculpts with exceptional surface detail
- Anyone who wants their final boss to genuinely unsettle the table
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to lift a curse from the Thornwood — crops failing, animals fleeing, rivers running black. They find the source at the forest's heart: a clearing ringed by petrified trees, where the Lord of the Forest holds court over a retinue of corrupted beasts. It does not attack immediately. It watches. And then it speaks — in the voice of someone the party's druid once knew.
