Kuchisake-onna — the Slit-Mouthed Woman — is one of Japanese folklore's most enduring horrors, and this sculpt captures her with chilling precision. She stands barefoot in a fighting stance, flowing robes swirling around her legs, long hair framing a grinning mask that hints at the ruined face beneath. Her arms are spread wide, each hand gripping one half of an oversized pair of scissors, blades extended outward like a hunter daring you to run. There is nothing frantic about her posture — it is patient, deliberate, and far more unsettling for it.
For Dungeon Masters, she works brilliantly as a unique undead spirit, a cursed assassin, or a yokai-inspired villain in an Eastern-influenced campaign setting. For collectors and painters, the flowing cloth, the masked expression, and those extended scissor blades offer a wealth of interesting surfaces to bring to life. She is equally at home on a display shelf as she is terrorising a party mid-session.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run horror-themed or folklore-inspired TTRPG campaigns
- Need a distinctive undead or spirit villain with a strong visual identity
- Are building a collection of mythologically-grounded monster miniatures
- Want a painting project with expressive detail in cloth, hair, and weaponry
Encounter Hook:
The party hears her before they see her — a soft, almost conversational question drifting through the fog of the cemetery district: "Am I beautiful?" When they turn, she is already close, scissor blades spread wide, mask tilted, waiting for an answer she has already decided is wrong.
