The Kuchisake-onna — the Slit-Mouthed Woman — is one of the most iconic figures in Japanese urban folklore, and she translates with terrifying elegance to the tabletop. This sculpt captures her in a moment of deceptive stillness: robed in a flowing kimono-style dress with wide sleeves, long pale hair framing a face locked in a jagged, unnervingly wide grin. One hand raises a slender dagger with casual, practised ease; the other reaches forward with hooked, claw-like fingers. She is barefoot, unhurried — because she already knows she will catch you.
For Dungeon Masters, she works beautifully as a cursed spirit, a supernatural assassin, or the centrepiece of a folklore-inspired horror arc. Her silhouette is distinctive enough to read clearly on the table even before your players roll Initiative — and unsettling enough to set the mood the moment you place her down. Equally at home on a display shelf, she rewards careful painting: the flowing fabric, sharp teeth, and expressive clawed hand all offer superb detail for painters of any experience level.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run horror-inflected D&D or TTRPG campaigns with folklore and urban legend themes
- Need a memorable, visually distinctive supernatural villain or boss encounter
- Enjoy painting expressive, characterful sculpts with flowing cloth and sharp detail
- Collect display miniatures inspired by world mythology and dark folklore
Encounter Hook:
Three nights running, a different villager has been found dead on the road out of town — each with an expression of frozen terror and a single clean cut across the face. The party's investigation leads them to a quiet woman in a pale robe who has been seen asking strangers the same question at dusk. She always asks it twice. No one has yet answered correctly.
