This is variation 02 of the Kobold Prisoner series from Novaminis — and it is a characterful one. The kobold stands upright in a posture of furious, restrained defiance: clawed hands thrust forward, heavy iron manacles locked around both wrists with a chunky chain linking them together, matching ankle shackles and a short chain hobbling the feet. The scaly, reptilian body is powerfully built for such a small creature, with pronounced dorsal spines along the back and a thick tail trailing behind. The face is the real centrepiece — wide jaws open in a full snarl, teeth bared, eyes wild with outrage or perhaps genuine menace. Every scale, claw, and link of chain is rendered with the crisp, confident detail that Novaminis is known for.
This is the kind of mini that earns its place at the table the moment it hits the battlemat. Whether your kobold prisoner is a reluctant informant, a planted spy, or a distraction while their warband closes in from behind, the sculpt sells the tension of the scene without a word of backstory needed. Away from the table, the expressiveness of the pose and the intricacy of the chainwork make this a rewarding piece to paint — a small canvas with a lot going on.
This bundle includes both the plain-based and no-base variants, giving you flexibility for basing to your own scheme or slotting directly into a pre-built dungeon tile set.
Suits adventurers who:
- Run dungeon crawls with captive or enslaved kobold NPCs
- Want a memorable mini for an interrogation or hostage scene
- Enjoy painting expressive, character-driven sculpts
- Are building out a kobold warband encounter with varied roles
- Love display pieces that reward close-up attention
Encounter Hook
The party finds the kobold bound to a post in the gnoll camp, stripped of gear and absolutely seething. It claims to know the location of the dragon cult's hoard — but it will only deal with the character who treats it as an equal. The clock is ticking: the gnolls return at dusk, and the kobold has already started testing the strength of its ankle chain with one clawed foot.
