The Kirin is no gentle storybook unicorn. This sculpt by Mia Kay captures something wilder and more primal: a creature of churning mane, powerful haunches, and a spiralling horn that tapers to a single dangerous point. One foreleg is raised mid-stride, as though it has just paused at the edge of a clearing to consider whether you are worthy of notice. The flowing tail trails behind it like smoke, and the lion-like face carries an expression that sits somewhere between regal disdain and quiet warning. This is the sort of creature that chooses who it allows to approach — not the other way around.
In D&D 5e, the Kirin sits firmly in Celestial or Fey territory: a creature of great beauty and equally great peril, at home in an enchanted woodland, a moonlit Feywild glade, or at the heart of a divine bestiary encounter. Whether you're running it as a guardian of a sacred grove, a harbinger of a dying forest, or the mount of a fey noble, this miniature brings it to the table with genuine presence. It works just as well as a display piece for collectors who appreciate exceptional sculpt detail — the layered mane texture alone rewards a close look.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Are building Feywild or enchanted forest encounters for D&D 5e
- Want a centrepiece creature that doubles as a display-worthy collector's piece
- Are looking for a characterful celestial or fey beast for their campaign
- Enjoy painting highly detailed fantasy creatures with flowing organic textures
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tasked with protecting a wounded Kirin found at the edge of a dying forest — but as they make camp, they realise the creature is not injured. It led them here deliberately, and the grove behind it is not empty.
