Vortigern is the dark heart of the Chronicles of Excalibur setting: a warlord-king whose authority is written in blood and iron. This sculpt captures him mid-command — a long sword held low in one gauntleted fist, his other hand raised in a grasping gesture of absolute dominion. His armour is a masterwork of aggressive layered plate, edged and spiked from pauldron to greave, with chainmail visible at the collar and joints beneath a sweeping ragged cloak. A spiked iron crown sits atop his head, and his face is twisted into a snarl of fury — this is not a ruler who asks twice. The base features the broken remains of a throne, suggesting a monarch who has already destroyed everything he once sat upon.
Three distinct sculpts are available in this range, each capturing a different angle of Vortigern's commanding presence — from a wide-legged stance with sword extended, to a forward-leaning posture with cape billowing behind. This listing is for the individual variant shown; browse the full range to find the pose that best fits your campaign or display shelf.
A strong match for adventurers who:
- Need a tyrannical king or warlord as a campaign's central villain or boss encounter
- Are running Arthurian-inspired, dark medieval, or political intrigue campaigns
- Want a Fighter, Paladin, or Oathbreaker Paladin character with genuine menace on the table
- Collect display-scale miniatures with deep character and rich surface detail
- Are building a court of villainous NPCs or a rival faction of armoured warriors
Encounter Hook:
The party has been summoned to the throne room under a banner of parley — but as they enter, they find Vortigern standing over the broken body of the last emissary who tried to negotiate, sword still unsheathed, one hand raised to command his guards to seal the doors. There will be no diplomacy tonight.
Details
Supplied at 32mm scale with a detailed scenic base.
