This Insectoid Monk cuts a genuinely unsettling silhouette — a multi-limbed, chitinous humanoid caught mid-stance, balanced on a single bird-like talon as it levels a long staff with one set of claws and draws back a notched, curved scythe-blade with another. The remaining arms splay wide, each tipped with wicked hooked fingers, giving the impression of a creature that fights on every axis simultaneously.

The sculpt rewards close inspection. Layered carapace plating covers the torso and upper limbs, decorated with circular rune-like engravings and organic bulb shapes that suggest something between natural chitin growth and deliberate armour craftsmanship — the aesthetic of a warrior caste that has never distinguished between the two. A flowing tattered loincloth-style wrap falls from the waist, adding movement and contrast against all that hard shell. The head is broad and insectoid, with swept antennae curving back above the shoulders.

From the rear, the sculpt's back carapace comes into its own — deeply textured, almost craggy, with the same rune-marked plating visible from a fresh angle. The balancing pose reads as genuinely dynamic from all sides, which makes this a rewarding piece to paint and to display on a rotating base or open shelf.

As a gaming piece, this miniature works beautifully as a Thri-Kreen monk or elder, a Githzerai martial arts master rendered in a more alien form, an insectoid champion of a hive-city buried beneath the Underdark, or simply as one of those encounters your players will describe long after the session ends.

Brilliant for adventurers who:

  • Need a striking monk or martial artist with a genuinely alien silhouette
  • Are running Underdark campaigns with insectoid factions or hive societies
  • Want a memorable BBEG lieutenant or exotic NPC martial arts master
  • Love detailed carapace and armour textures that reward careful brushwork
  • Are building a Thri-Kreen warband or multi-limbed creature encounter group

Encounter Hook: The party has tracked a series of disappearances to an abandoned mine shaft on the edge of town. Three levels down, past the webbing and the chittering in the walls, they find it — a single figure standing in the centre of a cleared chamber, six arms folded, staff planted, waiting. It does not attack immediately. It tilts its head and asks, in perfect Common, which one of them wishes to die first. The answer determines initiative order.
