The Ice Devil — known in infernal texts as the Gelugon — is one of the most tactically ruthless fiends in the hierarchy of the Nine Hells. Part general, part executioner, it operates with the cold patience of a creature that has never once doubted the outcome of a negotiation. This sculpt from Monster Atlas captures that menace with striking specificity: a hulking, multi-limbed insectoid form clad in segmented chitin armour, its compound amber eyes fixed forward with unsettling focus. Gold-banded bracers adorn its arms, and it wields a long ornate spear — tipped at both ends, carved with runes that suggest this weapon has been used in bargains far darker than mere combat. The pose across the three sculpt variants shifts from an upright combat stance to a crouched, coiled readiness, giving each its own narrative weight on the tabletop.

Whether you're building a Stygia-set campaign, running a warlock patron encounter, or placing this at the centre of a lawful evil faction, the Gelugon brings genuine dread without needing a word of description. It also makes for a compelling display piece — the detail in the chitinous plating and spear engravings rewards a careful paint job.

Suited to adventurers who:

  • Need a commanding, lore-authentic boss monster for D&D 5e or other TTRPGs
  • Are building infernal, Nine Hells, or lawful evil villain encounters
  • Want a centrepiece miniature that works equally well on the gaming table and the display shelf
  • Enjoy detailed sculpts with clear focal points for painting — compound eyes, textured chitin, ornate metalwork

Encounter Hook:
The party is summoned before the Gelugon not as enemies, but as consultants. It needs something retrieved from a rival devil's vault — and it has already signed the contract on their behalf. The terms are reasonable. The penalties for failure are printed in a font too small to read without a magnifying glass. The clock started when they entered the room.
