The Hungry Child is one of those miniatures that stops you mid-painting session. At first glance it reads almost human — a slight, wild-haired figure in tattered clothes, arms reaching forward with an unsettling openness. Look closer and the details reveal something far darker: crude cross-stitch sutures run down the torso, across the legs, and along the arms, as though whatever animates this creature has been sewn back into a body it no longer quite fits. The spiky, dishevelled hair frames a slack-jawed, glassy-eyed face that sits just far enough from natural to be genuinely unnerving.

This is variation 01 of the Hungry Child — a front-facing pose with both arms raised and extended, fingers spread in a grasping reach. It is the more confrontational of the sculpts, the creature caught mid-lurch, all hollow hunger and terrible patience. The ragged, layered clothing is detailed with fraying edges and knotted lacing at the boots, and the musculature beneath has that wrong, slightly distended quality that marks it as something other than a living child. On the painting table, it rewards layered shading on the pale skin and careful work on those stitches — rust-brown or dried-blood tones will make them sing.

Suits adventurers who want to:

  • Run horror-adjacent D&D sessions with genuinely unsettling encounter pieces
  • Explore Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or dark urban campaign settings
  • Add a disturbing NPC or monster to a village mystery or cult storyline
  • Challenge their painting skills with pale, necrotic skin tones and grim detail work
  • Build a display piece that provokes a strong reaction on the shelf

Encounter Hook: The party is called to a village where three children have gone missing. They find one of them returned — standing in the middle of the road at midnight, arms outstretched, saying nothing. Its eyes do not track movement. Its stitches are fresh. The innkeeper swears it was buried a week ago.
